Trick or treating for affiliates

September 20, 2006  |  Affiliate Marketing

Is it just me or is there a distinct lack of promotion this year for Halloween? I know there’s over a month to go until the main event but surely this is exactly the sort of time merchants should be out there promoting their programs and products? I decided to go in search of spooky deals which I could promote as an affiliate and at the same time see what our competitor programs are up to, if anything.

First of all, a quick shameless plug (but totally Halloween related).

Fancydress.com is not only the UK’s largest fancy dress costumier but also offers industry leading commissions with its affiliate program. Each sale could earn you a whopping 15% commission. During Halloween sales can rise as much as 10 times the normal volume as this is their busiest time of the year. Sign up here.

I indicated in a Google Trends post that October is the best time in the year to promote this program so now’s the time to get going if you haven’t already.

So what other fiendish programs are there to promote?

Firebox.com (AF, DGM, AW)
Always a good one to promote through out the year such is their range of quirky products. Their Halloween section includes such delights as Creepy Crawly lollies, Retro Sweets and the all essential Pumpkin Carving Kit

Butlins.com (Buy.at)
Butlins are inviting you to “feel the magic” this October with up to 50% off holiday breaks booked in October. Whilst not strictly Halloween related the site’s got a nice Halloween look and feel and there’s stack of things for the kids to get up to if that’s you’re angle.

Partybox.co.uk (buy.at)
This looks like a great one, just check out their Halloween themed landing page! Featuring all manner of party supplies, decorations, games, banners and paying up to 8% it could well be all you need to run a Halloween party affiliate style.

TheDogHouse.com (WG, POR)
Specialising in gifts and gadgets, the Dog House have put their own unique twist on Hallween and feature unique gifts such as a Ghost Hunting Adventure.

Jamster.co.uk (TD, Zanox)
This well known ringtone provider as numerous Halloween themed products available ranging from ringtones, sound effects, games and screensaves all available for the latest handsets.

If you know of any more, let me know and i’ll add them to the list.

  1. The traditional halloween merchants are all ready to go – although I’ve not seen many fireworks yet. As long as they’re working hard on their Christmas offers I don’t mind too much.

  2. Hmm…Fireworks, now there’s something I’ve never seen advertised online. I’m guessing that in the eyes of Google they fall into the same category as booze and drugs. Spoilsports.

  3. Is there much halloween in the UK?

Here in the US, halloween shopping is in full swing.

  4. In my experience Halloween is a very short lived affair in the UK and not enough merchants really capture the opportunity – as Mogga mentioned, many have their minds focused on Christmas. The biggest benefactors are of course the fancy dress outlets as I mentioned but why more traditional stores don’t run “Halloween offers”, “Spooky deals”, “Fangtastic prices” etc is beyond me.
