How would you monitise this site?

Thought I’d throw this one open for ideas as I’m caught in a little dilemma and undecided on what route to go.

I have a domain (no website) that gets between 10,000 - 30,000 uniques per month, all natural traffic arriving from existing links on other people’s websites (so no type in traffic). It was actually a website I ran many years ago that I decided to pull down due to little return for the amount of effort put in.

It was a popular website though and amazingly it still gets bucket loads of traffic despite being pulled several years ago.

The domain has no real value itself, as it’s a made up brand with no particular keywords or product names.

I feel like there’s no real suitable affiliate program to promote, as the domain itself is not related to any kind of product or service.

Currently the domain just redirects though an affiliate link to the closest merchant I have found but obviously conversions are poor and to top it off the program isn’t all that in the first place.

I’ve thought about splashing a load of adsense on a landing page but I can’t bring myself to do it. I’m not really the MFA type.

Any Ideas?

I’d say mix it up a bit and see which bits work.

Set up a small blog with a few articles and reviews, make sure the reviews sell the program a bit better so there’s a more natural flow for the traffic. A solid half day for a man of your calibre I’d say.

Stick some adsense in anyway, you’re better off making money from people making a decision to click away rather than hit the back button, and generally it performs better than banner ads.

From my limited experience people only click adsense when the content isn’t quite what they expected, and by pulling the site you’ve kind of done that anyway. Get some good content up and at least you won’t be a pure MFA spammer.

Options that i can think of are

Build a content rich site and populate it with adsense. the number of hits you get suggests that you will probably have some success with adsense

Domain parking: Park your domain with sedo, for example. They will build a webpage, populate it with google adsense, optimize this and split the adsense profits with you

Sell the domain name at pool.com or on ebay

You should use PPC-Max to advertise it, if you’re an adwords or adsense marketer. I used it to create an adwords campaign for my site and then I display adsense ads for additional revenue. It’s been running for about 2 weeks now and already I’ve seen a $2,000 increase in profit. It’s at http://instant.ppc-max.com and there’s a free demo of it as well.
